Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the internationally recognised tool for the quantitative assessment of the environmental impacts of products, services and processes, in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.

This course has been designed for professionals, students and executives who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the LCA methodology and apply it in practice for:

  • Strategic planning and decision-making.

  • Eco-design and the development of products with a reduced environmental footprint.

  • Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and regulatory frameworks such as EN 15804.

  • Sustainability reporting (ESG) and communication with stakeholders.

  • The basic principles and framework of LCA, with emphasis on industry.

  • The four phases of the methodology:

    1. Goal and Scope Definition.

    2. Life Cycle Inventory (LCI).

    3. Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA).

    4. Interpretation and presentation of results.

  • The relationship between LCA and other tools (EIA, LCC, Social LCA).

  • Practical applications in industry, energy, food and construction materials.

Duration and format:

  • 12 modules in the form of an asynchronous online course.

  • Each module includes detailed text, slides and examples.

  • At the end of each module, short quizzes and assignments are included to check understanding.

  • The course is completed with a final LCA project, allowing the methodology to be applied to a real example.

Upon completion of the course, participants will have the knowledge and tools to design, carry out and present a complete LCA study, strengthening their technical and professional competence in the field of sustainability.

Introduction to Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment
This module introduces the concept of sustainable development, its connection with environmental management, and the position of LCA among other tools such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Risk Assessment and Life Cycle Costing (LCC). It highlights the reasons why LCA has become a central tool in industry, policy and research.
